재활에 있어서 첫 1개월이 가장 회복속도가 빠른 시기이고, 이후 3개월, 6개월 단위로 회복이 느려진다. 1년 후에는 대체 가능한 뇌피질의 회복을 위한 대체 재활(손가락의 경우 손목, 팔꿈치,어깨 등)을 하고, 이후에 더 이상 회복되지 않는 경우에는 더이상 오그라들지 않도록 손 같은 경우에는 보조기를 착용하고, 고정된 상태에서 일상의 작업활동을 할 수 있도록 훈련한다.
