머리에 충격이 가해지면서 뇌 구조적으로는 크게 문제가 없지만, 뇌 기능이 일시적으로 감소하거나 소실되는 가벼운 뇌 손상

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury—or TBI—caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth.

뇌진탕은 머리에 부딪히거나, 타격을 받거나, 충격을 받거나 신체에 충격을 받아 머리와 뇌가 앞뒤로 빠르게 움직이면서 발생하는 일종의 외상성 뇌 손상(TBI)입니다.

의식 소실이 주 증상이다. 그러나 외상 이후 일시적인 기억력 상실, 지남력(사물을 가리키거나 지적할 수 있는 능력) 소실, 착란 상태 등도 광범위한 정의로는 뇌진탕이라고 한다. 뇌진탕 이후 두통이나 기억력 감퇴 또는 어지럼증을 호소하는 경우 뇌진탕 후 증후군
